Proud Member of Constitution Coalition

He Leads I Follow, a blog from harrisonfarr.com, is proudly a new member of the Back to the Constitution Coalition. This coalition is made up of conservative bloggers and web junkies who want to promote a return to the constitutional values of our American democracy.

Thomas Jefferson nicely summed up the problem facing the United States this very moment: “A government big enough to supply you with everything you need, is a government big enough to take away everything that you have....”

Special thanks to Andrew Biddinger for the formation of this coalition. Check out backtotheconstitution.org to find other members of the coalition, join the coalition yourself, and get updates on issues around the nation.

Expansion of Reader Blog

At harrisonfarr.com, I'm frequently modifying and changing around sections of the site to better display content. One of the areas that I have been the least satisfied with is the "Read This!" section, which now no longer exists.

In it's place, I've started the Freedom to Read blog, which chronicles my exploration in the world of books and literature. I'm not some high-and-mighty reader, but I've read enough to know what a good book is -- at least in my opinion. And that's exactly what you'll get tons of: my opinion. I'll review books, highlight authors, and otherwise delve into my world of books -- which is inclusive of some and exclusive of others.

So, if you're interested in a discussion of books, feel free to hop on over to that part of harrisonfarr.com. You can get there by clicking any of the navigation links at the top of the page, or just go to www.harrisonfarr.com/f2r/.

Intolerance from the "Tolerant"

I've been watching with a keen eye the way our country (and the world) has "celebrated" the election of President-elect Barack Obama. On the one hand, there is no doubt this is a historical undertaking. For centuries, there has been an ensuing battle for racial tolerance among Americans. One would think that by electing a (half-) black man into office, we would have achieved the pinnacle of racial tolerance. Not so...

A recent article published by CitizenLink tells the story of a 14-year-old Chicago-area middle schooler who conducted an experiment. One day, she wore a "McCain Girl" t-shirt. She received hateful comments -- even one saying she should be crucified -- throughout the day. The next day, she wore an "Obama Girl" t-shirt. Amazingly, everyone said she had finally come to her senses and praised her.

In addition, if anyone has been following the eruption here in California of pro-gay, anti-Prop-8 protesters, things are getting nasty. Protesters are vandalizing and even attacking people in anger over the passing of Proposition 8 which establishes marriage as between one man and one woman. A few years ago, California voters approved a measure to the same effect. Overturned by the California supreme court as "unconstitutional," Proposition 8 was set up to amend the constitution. Again, California voters approved the proposition. Now, protesters are conducting what amounts to a temper tantrum throughout the state, protesting essentially the voters' will.

It's crazy to think that the old adage "squeaky wheel gets the grease" actually applies to politics and decisions that impact the everyday lives of Americans.

So while a 5-percentage-point spread seems to call in to question the entire proposition for protesters -- they claim that the amendment didn't have enough support -- a 2-percentage-point spread elects a new president.

Sarah Palin Answers Some Questions

I know I'm a little late here, but I thought I would post some interesting videos of Sarah Palin answering some questions. Now that the election is over, as a Republican, I'm interested in watching Palin as she works with the party and looks towards the future. I hope she takes a nice long vacation though! I highly recommend a cruise to the Inside Passage...

Some Words to Ponder

Given the on-edge feel to today and the elections we're conducting as a country, I thought it would be good to ponder some things in the Bible. First, Romans 13:1...

Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.

It must be understood by Christians that no matter who is in office, God has purposefully placed them there. It may not be who I want, or you want, or somebody else wants, but God has a plan that has not been revealed to us, and won't be until the end of days. What's more, this person might make a mistake. They might sin. They might turn our country into a barren wasteland. But all things work together for good, according to God's will. So while God does not need to use sin for His plan, His will can not be shaken. His resolve to save this world from its sin cannot be torn down. No matter what, Christ and his followers will prevail against the rising tide of sin.

A fellow Christian raised an interesting point last night at our church's potluck and prayer service for this election. It is very clear that this election is historical for many reasons, not the least of which is that it appears to be a tipping point. If our country loses its moral foundations (which have been eroded so much), we're certainly headed for destruction. It was brought up that we are much like Sodom from Abraham's time. In the passage (Genesis 18:23-32) below, observe how he is pleading for them -- despite all of the sin and degredation:

And Abraham came near and said, “Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked? Suppose there were fifty righteous within the city; would You also destroy the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous that were in it? Far be it from You to do such a thing as this, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be as the wicked; far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” So the LORD said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.” Then Abraham answered and said, “Indeed now, I who am but dust and ashes have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord: Suppose there were five less than the fifty righteous; would You destroy all of the city for lack of five?” So He said, “If I find there forty-five, I will not destroy it.” And he spoke to Him yet again and said, “Suppose there should be forty found there?” So He said, “I will not do it for the sake of forty.” Then he said, “Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Suppose thirty should be found there?” So He said, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.” And he said, “Indeed now, I have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord: Suppose twenty should be found there?” So He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of twenty.” Then he said, “Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak but once more: Suppose ten should be found there?” And He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.”

Is not America in the same position? We have so many instances of moral degredation and attacks on our beliefs. Secular Americans cry out to be just like Europe and want all of the sinful pleasures to go along with it. It is with Abraham's fervent prayer that Christian Americans must also pray. If not for today, then for our future.

Letter from 2012 in Obama's America

Focus on the Family released an amazing letter in the past few days that has been making the rounds online. It's absolutely stunning, and I encourage everyone to read it and take it into consideration.
